Do you do TFP/Testing?
Yes, I consider every offer for work from professional, published photographers for testing and time
for print/CD. I bring a solid wardrobe to every shoot and provide my own professional
hair & makeup. I am also available for paid
work in the following categories: pinup, glamour, fashion, fetish-lite, and figure. No porn.
How do I book you as a model?
Email me through the address listed on this site.
Be specific regarding the project you have in mind. If the project sparks my
interest, I will be in touch. I am available for pinup, glamour, fashion, fetish-lite,
and figure photographic/artist work. I am also available for fashion shows and
spokesmodeling/conventions. No porn.
What are your rates?
My rates vary per project and are negotiable. My average modeling rate for non-commercial, non-nude
photography work is $50/hr. Nude photography rates start at $100/hr. My rate for live appearances
starts at $50/act, and depends on the nature of the performance requested. Rates vary per project
and are negotiable.
How did you get started in burlesque?
I first found out about burlesque through Naughty Natanya of
Belmont Burlesque.
I spent years watching BBR, as well as some other shows on stage. After some encouragement from other
perfomers within the Chicago burlesque scene, I eventually got up on stage and did an act...and was hooked!
How much money do you make performing burlesque?
Not as much as you'd think. An average performance pays somewhere around $50. It takes
10+ performances of any particular act to even pay for the costumes for that number! For most beginners, the cost of
costuming and travel is barely covered by the pay, but we do what we love!
Why don't you just do porn or work at a strip club?
I'm always surprised when someone asks me a question like this. Usually, they haven't actually
seen any burlesque show, let alone seen one of my burlesque shows! The answer, quite simply,
is - because I don't want to. I don't see anything wrong with being a performer in either of those
industries, but it's just not for me.
How do you twirl your tassles?
Practice. Tape/glue some tassles on and move around til they jiggle. Then pay attention to what
your body is doing and how the tassles move when you do. Twirling is all about controlling the way
your body moves. You can produce all sorts of twirling - clockwise, counter-clockwise, one in each direction,
one at a time, if you pay attention to how your body affects the tassles!
What do you do when you're on your period?
A surprisingly frequently asked question! A burlesque performer never lets her period get in
the way! When we have our periods, we generally tuck the string or use a "cup" - like
Diva Cup (you can get it at Whole Foods).
Ever have a wardrobe malfunction?
Nowadays, a wardrobe malfunction just comes with the territory - I've lost hats, tassels, panties, you name it.
The most wardrobe threatening act to do is a fan dance - the feathers brush across portions of your costumes and can
dislodge or muss just about anything from pasties to lipstick. I've also had malfunctions where things that were
supposed to come off...well, wouldn't. I've also had to tear costume pieces off because a zipper has broken or a pin
has gotten stuck and they wouldn't come off any other way. Although it's heartbreaking to rip a costume piece
you love, tearing clothes off always gets a nice audience reaction! :)
Where do you get your costumes?
My costumes come from a variety of places. I really love costume pieces that fans and designers have made for me,
I also do some sewing, ebaying, and I just adore feathers from
Ostrich.com
(I have a 10% discount with code "vaudezilla"). I also have an amazing personal costumer, Erin Gallagher,
who's worked for Chicago Shakespeare Company, Steppenwolf, and more!
Can I send you something to wear in a photo shoot?
Why, yes, you may. Find my address here.
How do you keep in shape?
I teach burlesque twice a week, plus troupe rehearsal and my own rehearsal, plus performing so I have a
fairly active schedule. Also, I don't eat out often, and I'm fair-weather pesco-vegetarian (how could I give up sushi?!),
so my diet probably helps a little bit. Having said that, I'm a sucker for bakery and never turn down dessert.
One of the great things about burlesque is that you can be any size. For
example, I'm a size 8/10 - and I actually have 42" hips (as opposed to what my stats say above)!!
So, although I think diet & exercise are important for a healthy life, I am fortunate that I don't have to
take that into consideration for performing burlesque.
I believe in Radical Acceptance of myself and my body.
Who designs your website?
This website is a labor of love - from start to scratch, I (Red Hot Annie) design and maintain this website by handcoded
HTML (ie: typing the code into notepad, no dreamweaver, no templates).
