How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Burlesque Performer?
A Practical Chicago Pricing Guide

One of the first questions people ask me when planning a party or event is:
How much does it cost to hire a burlesque performer?
In Chicago, the answer can range from a few hundred dollars for a simple appearance to several thousand dollars for a custom entertainment experience.
The difference usually comes down to experience, preparation, customization, number of performers and how much responsibility the entertainer is carrying inside the event.

These are useful general ranges rather than fixed industry rates.
$300–$700
Often newer performers, shorter appearances or straightforward acts requiring little customization.
$800–$1,500
Experienced professional performers providing a polished featured act for a birthday, cocktail party, bachelorette celebration or private event.
$1,500–$3,000+
More customized entertainment involving hosting, guest interaction, multiple appearances, custom music or costuming, creative planning or a larger role in the evening.
$3,000+
Multi-performer entertainment, immersive concepts, musicians, specialty artists or fully produced event experiences.
The important question is not only:
How long will the performer be onstage?
It is also:
What are you asking them to create?

What Affects the Cost?
Experience
An experienced performer is not only bringing choreography.
They are bringing years of knowing how to walk into an unfamiliar room, understand the audience, adapt when plans change and make the entertainment feel effortless.
Customization
A prepared repertoire act is different from something designed around your music, theme, venue, guests or brand.
Customization may involve music editing, costuming, rehearsal, character development and production planning.
The Event Itself
A milestone birthday in a private home has different needs than a corporate gala, hotel ballroom or brand activation.
Venue requirements, travel, load-in, insurance and coordination can all affect the scope.
Number of Performers
One featured performer is fundamentally different from creating an evening involving dancers, musicians, hosts or immersive characters.

What Are You Actually Paying For?
The five or ten minutes guests see onstage are only part of the work.
Professional event performance may also involve:
- Planning and communication
- Music preparation
- Costuming
- Venue coordination
- Rehearsal
- Travel and load-in
- Audience adaptation
- Event timing
- Insurance and documentation
- Creative direction
Most of this should be invisible to your guests.
That is partly the point.
The evening should simply feel like it worked.

Is It Worth Hiring a More Experienced Performer?
It depends on what is at stake.
If you simply want a short piece of entertainment, you may not need extensive customization or creative direction.
If it is an important birthday, corporate event, client celebration or evening where the guests matter enormously, experience buys something less visible:
certainty.
Someone knows when to enter.
They understand how much interaction the room wants.
They know when not to push.
They can recover gracefully when dinner runs twenty minutes late or the planned performance space suddenly disappears.
That is often what clients are paying for as much as the act itself.
A Few Events I’ve Helped Create
My work has included entertainment and event experiences connected with:
Harley-Davidson
Soho House Chicago
Midtown Athletic Club
Templeton Rye Whiskey
Curatrix
The formats were different because the rooms were different.
That is how I think about entertainment.
Not:
What act can I sell you?
But:
What should happen here?
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a typical burlesque performance?
A featured act may only be several minutes long, while a larger engagement can include multiple appearances, hosting or entertainment throughout the evening.
The right length depends on the event rather than simply making the performance longer.
Can the performance be customized?
Yes. Music, costuming, pacing, tone and audience interaction can all be shaped around the occasion.
Is burlesque appropriate for corporate events?
It can be.
The content and tone can be designed around the audience, company culture and venue. Cabaret, character performance and theatrical entertainment do not necessarily involve striptease.
Can I hire several performers?
Yes.
For multiple burlesque dancers, specialty performers, musicians or a larger production, I build the cast through Vaudezilla.
